Deep cleaning versus regular cleaning: which does your home need?
A guide for homes in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and Halton Hills. Compare what gets cleaned, when the extra detail is useful and what each service costs for the same home.

What is the difference between Deep and regular home cleaning?
Regular cleaning handles everyday dust, dirt and the rooms you use most. Deep cleaning adds detailed work on buildup, edges and surfaces that need more attention. Choose by the condition of your home and the tasks you want done.
At Heron, regular home cleaning starts with Basic: reachable surfaces dusted, accessible floors vacuumed and hard floors mopped, from $89 for a one-bedroom before HST. Bathrooms and kitchens are rooms you select separately. Deep builds on that scope with detailed baseboards, door frames, window tracks and reachable fixtures, plus more detailed work in the bathrooms and kitchen you select.
“Deep” does not mean every possible task is included. Compare the actual checklist and selected rooms, especially when comparing different companies. This guide describes Heron’s own services; our room-by-room Deep cleaning checklist gives the longer task reference.
What gets cleaned with each service?
Both services include the Basic dusting, vacuuming and mopping scope. The Deep upgrade adds detailed wiping and buildup work; selecting a kitchen or bathroom adds that room to either service.
| Task or area | Regular / Basic | Deep |
|---|---|---|
| Reachable furniture, shelves and decor | Routine dusting and wiping | More detailed dusting, including reachable edges and corners |
| Accessible floors and stairs | Vacuuming; hard floors mopped | The same floor scope, with the surrounding detail and buildup work |
| Baseboards, doors, frames, switches and handles | General reachable dusting; no detailed wipe-down package | Detailed wiping |
| Window sills, tracks, fixtures and vents within reach | Routine sill dusting | Sills and tracks, plus reachable fixtures and vent surfaces |
| Selected full bathrooms | Toilet, tub and shower, sink and vanity, mirror, fixtures, and the bathroom floor washed. | Bathroom scope plus detailed grout, tile, taps and extractor-fan work within reach |
| Selected kitchen | Counters, sink and taps, stovetop surface, backsplash wipe, exterior of all appliances, cupboard and drawer fronts, and the kitchen floor washed. | Kitchen scope plus detailed backsplash, range-hood exterior and under reachable small appliances |
| Oven, fridge and cabinet interiors | Optional selections | Still optional selections |
| Interior window glass and detailed blind cleaning | Optional selections | Still optional selections |
Reachable vent surfaces are not duct cleaning. Work behind small movable items is different from moving heavy furniture or appliances. Tell us about fragile finishes, restricted access or unusually heavy buildup when arranging the visit.
How can you tell which clean your home needs?
Look at the edges and buildup, not just how long it has been since the last appointment. Choose regular cleaning when everyday upkeep is the main job; choose Deep when several areas need detailed attention.
Choose regular cleaning for everyday upkeep
If the counters need wiping, the floors need vacuuming and the selected bathrooms need their usual clean, Basic with those rooms selected is the natural starting point. A busy week does not automatically mean the whole home needs a Deep upgrade.
Choose Deep when detail work has accumulated
Check the baseboards, door frames, reachable tracks, bathroom fittings and kitchen edges. If several have settled dust, residue or buildup needing detailed work, Deep is a better match. It can also be useful before returning to a regular maintenance schedule.
Choose a targeted extra when only one job is missing
A dirty oven does not by itself call for a whole-home Deep clean. Keep the regular scope and select the oven interior. Equally, choosing Deep alone will not add the oven interior. Use the task list to decide where you want the work.
Moving into an empty home? Start with the move-in cleaning checklist. Dust after building or renovation work belongs under post-construction and post-renovation cleaning, which has its own scope and pricing.
What does each clean cost for the same home?
For a 3-bedroom house of 900 sq ft, with 2 full bathrooms and one kitchen selected, Basic is $213 before HST and Deep is $292 before HST. These are one-time visits with the same home details and room selections.
The Deep price includes the size-based upgrade and the selected kitchen’s Deep rate of +$45, compared with +$25 for Basic. The table includes no appliance interiors, basement, balcony, pets or other extras. Change the floor area and selections in the calculator to see your own upfront price.
| Price line | Regular / Basic | Deep |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Cleaning | $148 | $148 |
| Full bathrooms (2) | $40 | $40 |
| Kitchen | $25 | $45 |
| Deep Cleaning upgrade | Not selected | $59 |
| Subtotal before HST | $213 | $292 |
| HST (13%) | $27.69 | $37.96 |
| Total including HST | $240.69 | $329.96 |

Both use the same published rate card across Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and Halton Hills. Bedroom count, home size, selected work, condition and access determine the price.
What remains optional with Deep cleaning?
Oven, fridge and cabinet interiors remain separate selections, as do interior window glass, detailed blinds, basement and balcony work. Select the extras you need with either Basic or Deep.
For Basic and Deep bookings, fridge interiors are +$39, oven interiors are from +$19 per cavity and cabinet interiors are +$29, before HST. Clear the relevant shelves or discuss handling requirements when booking. The calculator lists the available choices and their prices.
Floor vacuuming does not mean carpet shampooing, and a Deep clean does not promise to restore damaged finishes or permanently stained grout. Describe the problem you want addressed so the booked work matches it.
Do you need Deep cleaning before regular visits?
The first-visit decision should follow the home’s condition. If routine upkeep is enough, choose Basic with the rooms you need. If several surfaces need detailed buildup work, book a one-time Deep clean before settling into regular visits.
There is no useful universal timetable for every home. Review the task list as you go: a home can be ready for another regular visit while only one optional job needs attention. If you already have a schedule, ask to change the scope for the visit that needs more detail.
Heron’s recurring Basic discounts are 20% weekly, 15% bi-weekly and 10% monthly, starting with the second visit. The first Basic visit is at the one-time price. Deep is a one-time service and does not receive a recurring discount.

Common questions about Deep and regular cleaning
Does regular cleaning include the kitchen and bathrooms?
Heron’s Basic base covers reachable dusting, accessible vacuuming and hard-floor mopping. You select kitchens and bathrooms separately. A full bathroom is +$20 and a Basic kitchen is +$25, before HST.
Does Deep cleaning include the inside of the oven and fridge?
No. Oven, fridge and cabinet interiors are separate selections with Heron’s Basic and Deep services. Selecting a kitchen adds its surfaces and appliance exteriors; it does not automatically add interiors.
Can I book regular cleaning for a first visit?
Choose the service based on the work needed. Basic with your selected rooms suits routine upkeep; tell us about accumulated buildup or areas needing detail so the first appointment has the right scope.
Are regular cleaning and recurring cleaning the same thing?
Regular describes routine cleaning work. Recurring describes the schedule. You can book Basic as a one-time visit or arrange weekly, bi-weekly or monthly Basic visits. Deep is booked as a one-time service.
Is Deep cleaning the right service after a renovation?
For dust or residue from building work, choose the separate post-construction and post-renovation service. Its scope addresses construction dust and safe removable residue; it is not the same as a household Deep clean.
Are the prices the same in all five service areas?
Yes. Heron uses the same published rate card in Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Mississauga and Halton Hills. Your home size, room selections, extras, condition and access determine the quote.
